Dear Democratic family, this week, our dear friend and longtime DEC supporter Major General Enoch Williams passed away in his sleep on Tuesday April 24th. Enoch was a brilliant thinker, a dedicated veteran, a long-time Brooklyn City Councilman and a great friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and we ask that you please say a prayer for his loving wife, Marian, and for their family and friends. Below is some information about Gen. Former New York City Councilman, Dies at 84. Hon. Enoch H. Williams served in the NYC Council from 1978 to 1997, until his retirement. Williams’ death was confirmed by Baldwin & Fairchild Funeral Home of Sanford, Florida.

While serving as a Councilman his achievements were numerous.  He was sensitive to the needs of racially and ethnically diverse constituency.  General Williams, represented the 41st Council manic District from 1978-1997 until he retired.  He served for 19 years while making important strides in his role as a Councilman, in meaningful ways.  In his Civilian life he was the Director of the Housing Development Corporation of the Council of Churches.

He was also a Community Organization Specialist in the now famous Youth In Action, Inc. Anti -poverty Agency, where he developed the skill of working with community groups, guiding them to create housing and employment in the inner city.  In his Military Career, he was the civilian Director of Selective Service System. He held numerous memberships in various organizations: member of the American Institute of Housing Consultants, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The National Urban League, Democrats with Disabilities Caucus of Florida, Democratic Veterans’ Caucus of the State of Florida, Affirmative Action Co-chair of the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida, Member of the Central Florida Democratic Club and Executive Member  Emeritus of Unity Democratic Club of New York.
